Event Banners for Simarki
Simarki produce a high-quality golfing product at a competitive price. They have exhibited twice at the PGA Golf Show in America, and their signature Simarki Tee can be found throughout the world. This post takes you through the process of designing the PGA event banners for Simarki.
I’ve had the privilege to work with Simarki since 2012 on many of their projects, including packaging design and product photography. This particular project was for 3 large event display banners for placing behind their table at events and fairs.
Often, businesses want to include as much information as they can into a banner of this size, which is not a functional solution, if the primary objective of an event display banner is to attract attention and act as a location marker. It’s always better to keep banners bold and impactful, and rather supply more info in the form of a flyer or pamphlet that visitors can take away with them.
The 3 banners for Simarki were intended to form a backdrop behind the display table, with one large 3m x 2.4m banner in the centre, flanked by 2 narrower 3m x 0.8m banners on either side. One of the banners doubled up as a hanging stand for some of their products.
This project was ordered and completed in December 2024, in time for the PGA Golf Tournament, where they would be promoting their products.
Project process
Kim wanted a high-quality front and centre image of their signature golf tee on the main large banner. Their logo also needed to be displayed at eye level height on the banner for easy recognition at a distance. The South African flat is proudly displayed next to their contact info on the left, with images of their tee range on the right side of the main banner.
One of the 2 flanking banners was to promote their fixed-height tees and give more information on those, while the other flanking banner was used as a display stand to hang their products onto so buyers could see all the packaged items and purchase them.
Because I have worked with Simarki’s branding for some time already, I had their logo in the required file formats, as well as a handle on how the banners needed to look to match their existing brand aesthetic. I had also already done all Simarki’s product photography for their printed promotional assets as well as for their website, so had at hand all the elements I needed to design their banners quickly. It was just a matter of arranging the elements cohesively so that the banners did what they needed to do.
Images above and below show a mockup of the flanking banner used for product display, the main central ‘feature’ banner, the other banner promoting the fixed-height tees, a close up simulation of how the packaged products were displayed on the banner, details of the fixed height tee banner, and detail of the main central banner.
On approval of the designs, the print files were created and sent over to Kim for sending straight to her printer. Simarki use their own preferred printer to print and construct the banners. They are printed on PVC vinyl and all fold up for easy transport.
My main concern with this project was the large areas of solid black print needed, but Kim sent me photos of the end product at the display and they came out great, thankfully. The banners are fairly durable and should last them for a good few more events.
